HIDDEN FORTRESS is an acoustic/electronic music ensemble led by David Michel-Ruddy that pushes stylistic boundaries and explores unique sound worlds. Melodic, groove-oriented structures intersect with algorithms, hip-hop, tape music, ambience, and jazz.
David Michel-Ruddy is a pianist/composer and East Bay native. His music embraces aspects of contemporary classical music, electronic art music, hip-hop, abstract soundscape narratives and a wide swath of jazz, from bop to avant-garde. His wide-ranging creative efforts are bound by a natural sense of timbre, rhythmic texture, and harmonic gravity. He received his bachelor's in music from UC Berkeley and a master\'s in music theory/composition from New York University. Notable past collaborators include such talents as Howard Wiley, Yair Evnine, Ambrose Akinmusire, Malik Ameer, Dayna Stephens, and Cyril Guiraud. In addition to performance music, he composes music for picture. His work has recently been featured in numerous national television commercials.
